Limited Engagement – Two Shows Only – Opens September 8, 2015
Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) Theatre Arts and Dance Department is proud to present a workshop production of the coming-of-age stage drama Frozen Stars, in celebration of Latino Heritage Month, under the direction of the playwright, David-Matthew Barnes. This limited engagement begins September 8, 2015.
Frozen Stars explores the lives of several young people as they struggle with personal and religious beliefs, peer pressure, family relationships, and the overwhelming power of love and friendship. Shortly after Frozen Stars received a world premiere in Chicago, the Latino-themed play was adapted into a feature film (starring Lana Parrilla of ABC’s Once Upon a Time), which received worldwide distribution. Of the premiere, The Chicago Reader wrote, “An ultra-sincere depiction of young people…passionately performed…”
Frozen Stars is being directed by David-Matthew Barnes, the new Program Director of the RRCC Theatre Arts and Dance Department. Barnes is an acclaimed and nationally recognized playwright whose more than forty stage plays have been performed in three languages in eight countries.
This production is a collaboration between the Theatre Arts and Dance Department, the Center for Inclusion and Diversity, and Student Life. The cast is comprised of more than 20 student actors and dancers. Barnes teamed with choreographers and RRCC dance instructors Emily Bryan, Veronica Potter, and Marilynn Toth, to incorporate movement pieces into the show.
Frozen Stars runs September 8 and 9 at 12:00 p.m. at the Lakewood campus of Red Rocks Community College (west end, lower level). Admission is free. The play contains adult language and content.
